Town Election Results – 2025

Town Election Results – 2025

The first step in forming the model government at American Legion Cornhusker Boys’ State is the town elections. Each floor of the University of Nebraska residence hall represents a “town” that elects a mayor, city council, school board, and state senators. After the elections, these newly elected officials participate in workshops to learn about their responsibilities and duties. Once they understand their roles, they will begin debating legislation and policies in their respective meetings.

Governor Grant Ruma Adresses Cornhusker Boys’ State 2025

Grant Ruma Addresses 2025 Cornhusker Boys’ State Delegation at Opening Ceremony

LINCOLN, NE (June 1, 2025) — The 2024 Governor of Cornhusker Boys’ State, Grant Ruma, delivered an inspiring address to the 2025 delegation at the opening ceremony held at the University of Nebraska’s Hawks Hall College of Business. The event marked the beginning of the 2025 session of the American Legion’s prestigious civic leadership program.

Ruma, a 2024 graduate of Omaha’s Creighton Prep High School and a native of Ft. Calhoun, NE, shared his journey through Boys State, urging the new delegates to take full advantage of the opportunity before them. As a former delegate and Governor of Cornhusker Boys’ State, Ruma emphasized the importance of engaging in civic duties and making a positive impact on their communities. Later, Ruma was joined on stage by Elkhorn South graduate, Nikolai Khots, to discuss their shared experience representing Nebraska at the ultra-competitive American Legion Boys Nation program in Washington, D.C. last year.

Ruma, who is set to attend the University of Tennessee-Knoxville this fall to major in Public Affairs, spoke passionately about his plans to pursue a career in public service and how Cornhusker Boys’ State helped shape his aspirations. “This week is an exciting time for Boys’ Staters! Let’s forge a legacy, starting now, that shows future generations of Staters that America’s best days are not behind us. They are yet to come,” Ruma told the crowd of young leaders.

The 2025 delegation listened intently as Ruma shared insights on the value of integrity, collaboration, and commitment to service. His words resonated with many of the new delegates, who are beginning their own leadership journeys in Nebraska’s mock government.

At the end of the week, Ruma will welcome his successor in a ceremonial handoff, symbolizing the continuity of leadership within the Cornhusker Boys’ State program. His speech set the tone for a week of learning, growth, and civic engagement for all attendees.
