In the 15 minute filler space between Flag Raising and Cornhusker Boys State first morning session at Hawks Hall, Isaiah Jacobson introduces himself and his campaign as Lieutenant Governor with five minutes of “stand up comedy.” His punchlines can certainly draw in a crowd but is it enough to take him past the primary?

Gettysburg delegates gathered today to practice their campaign speeches for upcoming state and country office elections. Town members took turns delivering their pitches while others provided constructive feedback and encouragement. The session covered candidates running for various positions, from Governor to Sheriff. 
Beyond the thrill of the campaign, Cornhusker Boys State offers a comprehensive exploration of citizenship and leadership. Delegates participate in workshops, interact with elected officials, and develop a deeper understanding of civic responsibility. This transformative experience equips young leaders with the skills and insights needed to make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

Boys State is equally divided into two fictitious political parties. Each party meets to construct a platform from scratch, and candidates will campaign for state and county offices. This process is driven entirely by the students who elect their party leadership and debate the “planks” of their platforms.
